Stripe merchant integration

Install PayShare on the Stripe account that takes your payments, add Split with others to checkout, and start each split from your server.

This guide is for merchants whose checkout uses Stripe. By the end, your checkout shows Split with others beside Pay now, and group payments land in your own Stripe account.

The merchant journey

  1. Install PayShare from the Stripe App Marketplace

Install on the Stripe account that receives your payments. Install on Stripe.

  2. Open PayShare in your Stripe Dashboard

PayShare opens as an app inside Stripe. Your Stripe account is already connected.

  3. Tell PayShare who controls your checkout

Choose I control my own checkout or A platform manages my checkout. See the two options below.

  4. Add Split with others to your checkout

Your checkout shows the button under Pay now, and a server route starts the split. If a platform runs your checkout, the platform does this part.

  5. Confirm set up in PayShare

Splits stay locked until you confirm the button is live. Until then, starting a split returns WEBSITE_SETUP_REQUIRED.

  6. Customers split and pay

Each share is authorised on your Stripe account and captured together once the order is covered.

  7. Confirm the order from Stripe

Mark the order paid from Stripe’s records. The customer’s return to your site is for display only.

Who controls your checkout?

You control your own checkout

Your checkout runs on your website or your own booking system, and you or your developer can change it.

  • In PayShare, choose I control my own checkout.
  • Add the button. See Checkout.
  • Add the server route that starts the split. See Start a split.
  • Once the button is live, select I’ve added “Split with others” to my checkout in PayShare and confirm.

PayShare also gives you copy-paste code and an AI assistant prompt for this step inside the app.

A platform manages your checkout

Your checkout is run by a booking engine, property system or commerce platform. You cannot add code to it, and you do not need to.

  • In PayShare, choose A platform manages my checkout and pick your platform.
  • If your platform supports PayShare, PayShare shows your Stripe account and a one-time connection code, plus any setup notes from your platform.
  • Enter them in your platform’s PayShare setting, usually under payment settings, and turn PayShare on there.
  • Split with others goes live when your platform confirms the connection and PayShare is on.

A connection code expires after 30 minutes and works once. If it expires, generate a new one in PayShare. Generating a new code cancels the old one.

What you need for your own checkout

  • PayShare installed on your Stripe account, in test mode or live mode.
  • A checkout served over HTTPS.
  • A booking or order with a total your server trusts.
  • A server that can create a Stripe PaymentIntent with the secret key it already uses. You never give this key to PayShare.
